Cup of Joe

The phrase “a cup of Joe” is commonly linked to Josephus “Joe” Daniels, U.S. Secretary of the Navy in 1914, who issued General Order 99—banning alcohol aboard Navy ships. With grog gone, coffee became the strongest drink sailors were allowed. It was poured constantly, relied on heavily, and soon ordered simply as “Joe.”

Over time, Joe became shorthand for coffee itself—symbolizing long watches, early mornings, and the grit required to get the job done at sea.

Blending vintage tattoo-style florals with naval tradition, this shirt honors those who run on caffeine, routine, and resilience—one cup at a time.
