Queen of the shop

Some people don’t just work in a shop — they become part of its foundation. They set the standard, take care of their people, and leave a mark that lasts long after they’re gone.

This design was created in honor of Rene Shelton, a hairdresser for over 25 years and leader in the Miss Illinois community for more than two decades. As the director of programs like Miss Capitol City, Miss Independence, and Miss Land of Lincoln, she dedicated her life to mentoring and empowering young women.

Rene was known for her warmth, generosity, and the way she brought people together — something many described as “the orbit that is Rene.” Once you were in it, you were family.

The daughter of a 20-year Navy veteran and the mother of a 22-year Navy veteran, she carried a deep sense of pride, loyalty, and commitment into everything she did — both in her work and in her community.

Blending traditional tattoo-style imagery with classic shop culture, this design honors the ones who become the backbone of a place — the ones who make it more than just a job.

Proceeds from every sale will be donated to the Rene Shelton Memorial Scholarship, continuing her legacy by supporting and empowering future generations.
